Why in News?
The Department of Posts has launched two new digital platforms — ‘Know Your DIGIPIN’ and ‘Know Your PIN Code’ — to modernise India’s addressing and geospatial infrastructure, supporting the implementation of the National Geospatial Policy 2022.

- Know Your DIGIPIN Portal?
- Ministry Involved: Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications.
- Objective: To enable digital address precision using geo-coded grids and improve last-mile service delivery across India.
- Developed By: Collaboration with IIT Hyderabad and NRSC, ISRO.
Key Features:
- Geo-coded Addressing: Each DIGIPIN represents a precise latitude-longitude grid, providing high-resolution location identification.
- Address-as-a-Service (AaaS): Offers standardised and secure address solutions for governments, private firms, and users.
- Open-Source Platform: Technical data and source code are available on GitHub, encouraging innovation and public use.
- GIS Integration: Supports accurate logistics, disaster response, and e-governance by integrating Geographic Information Systems into addressing.
- Inclusivity: Promotes digital inclusion of rural and remote areas by offering uniform address identifiers.
- Know Your PIN Code Portal?

- Objective: To modernise the traditional six-digit PIN Code system by incorporating geospatial technology and GNSS-based mapping.
Key Features:
- Geo-fencing of PIN Codes: Digitally maps the boundaries of over 1.5 lakh PIN Codes to enhance accuracy.
- Location-based PIN Retrieval: Allows users to identify the correct PIN using real-time GNSS location inputs.
- Public Feedback System: Citizens can submit suggestions to improve and refine the PIN dataset continuously.
- Open Data Access: The geo-referenced PIN Code data is accessible on the Open Government Data (OGD) Platform.
- Support for Delivery Services: Improves e-commerce, emergency response, and postal logistics with more precise regional mapping.
